New Skincare Products for Fall 2018
Ava Isa Ultra Matte SPF 45 Sunscreen
I told you about Ava Isa Ultra Matte SPF 45 Sunscreen in my 2018 sunscreen guides, and now, it's available for purchase! This is one of my new favourites—an innovative zinc oxide-based sunscreen that's lightweight and non-whitening, yet gives you high SPF 45 protection. It comes in Pure Untinted and Aurora Rose, a nude-rose tint.
BIOeffect Micellar Cleansing Water
BIOeffect Micellar Cleansing Water can be used as a makeup remover or to cleanse away dirt and oil. It's a splurge, yes, but it won't dry out your skin, and it's oil-free, fragrance-free and alcohol-free.
BIOeffect OSA Water Mist
I mentioned the BIOeffect OSA Water Mist in my summer skincare routine—what makes this face mist different is that it's both hydrating and mattifying (thanks to the silica). So you can spritz away without getting that overly dewy look.
Caudalie Vinopure Purifying Toner
Finally, there's a mild salicylic acid toner for people who find COSRX and Paula's Choice too strong! While they don't disclose the acid percentage, Caudalie Vinopure Purifying Toner is said to help clear acne and make pores look smaller. It's also formulated with more natural ingredients than most products of this type.
Note: The alcohol is acting as a penetration enhancer and shouldn't be a problem if you moisturize properly afterward.
Caudalie Vinopure Skin Perfecting Mattifying Fluid
If you're looking for a lightweight, silicone-free moisturizer with natural ingredients, you'll be happy about Caudalie Vinopure Skin Perfecting Mattifying Fluid. There's silica in here to help control oil, along with rosewater, glycerin and niacinamide to hydrate. I love the thin, cream-gel texture.
Caudalie Vinopure Skin Perfecting Serum
Another gentle salicylic acid option is the new Caudalie Vinopure Skin Perfecting Serum. It promises to reduce acne, clogged pores and excess oil while exfoliating the skin surface. It even has an antioxidant to prevent oil from oxidizing (leading to blackheads). I'm very impressed!
Dermalogica BioLumin-C Serum
Dermalogica BioLumin-C Serum combines vitamin C, lactic acid and a peptide in one serum to treat dullness, uneven tone and wrinkles. They're using a new vitamin C derivative, aminopropyl ascorbyl phosphate (AAP), which is supposed to be more stable than L-ascorbic acid and is water-soluble. So this would be a good product to try if you break out from oil-based vitamin C products—it has a really light texture!
Dermalogica Clear Start Breakout Clearing Booster
Dermalogica Clear Start Breakout Clearing Booster is a 2 percent salicylic acid treatment that can be applied all over the face or just on blemishes. Unlike most products in this category, it's low in silicone.
Note: The packaging is confusing... to dispense it, you have to push up the bottom of the tube!
Go-To Exfoliating Swipeys
Aussie brand Go-To recently arrived in the US (hopefully Canada is next!), and my top pick would be the Go-To Exfoliating Swipeys. These are gentle lactic acid-based exfoliating pads with aloe vera to soothe and hydrate.
Henné Organics Lavender Mint Lip Exfoliator
Henné Organics has just landed in Canada with its array of all-natural lip products. The Henné Organics Lavender Mint Lip Exfoliator buffs off dry skin with sugar crystals in coconut oil, jojoba oil, beeswax and shea butter. It also comes in Nordic Berries and Rose Diamonds.
Henné Organics Luxury Lip Balm
Henné Organics Luxury Lip Tint
Henné Organics Luxury Lip Tints are probably the nicest tinted lip balms I've ever tried! (Proof? I had to have ALL the shades after trying just one!) They're super-nourishing and long-lasting, and give amazing sheer colour. Choose from Bare (nude), Intrigue (dark red), Coral and Azalea (vibrant pink).
Herbivore Prism Exfoliating Glow Potion
Herbivore Prism Exfoliating Glow Potion is a natural exfoliating and hydrating serum that promises brighter, more even-toned skin. It contains a blend of AHAs derived from fruit—including lactic, glycolic, citric and malic acids—in an aloe vera and hyaluronic acid base.
Kate Somerville EradiKate Salicylic Acid Acne Treatment
I feel like brands are suddenly listening to me that salicylic acid works best as an all-over treatment! That's what Kate Somerville EradiKate Salicylic Acid Acne Treatment is all about—it's meant to be applied on your entire face, overnight, to prevent acne. There's two percent salicylic acid in here, and it's low in silicone.
Lanolips 101 Ointment Multi-Balm Coconutter
Lanolips 101 Ointment Multi-Balm Coconutter is a new spin on Lanolips' original 100 percent lanolin ointment. Besides the star ingredient, lanolin, it has coconut oil and vitamin E, plus an amazing coconut milk scent and flavour.
Odacité Adventurine Kiss Lip Serum
Odacité Adventurine Kiss Lip Serum is a genius idea—a blend of nourishing oils in a leak-proof portable rollerball. (I've been wanting something like this for ages!) It hydrates and plumps the lips, and can act as primer under lipstick. The applicator itself is a green Aventurine crystal, said to bring good luck!
Odacité Black Mint Cleanser
Odacité Black Mint Cleanser is a sulfate-free gel cleanser best for normal to combination, oily, congested or acne-prone skin. Made with natural ingredients, it has charcoal, clay, peppermint and tea tree oils to deep-cleanse and reduce oil (but without stripping). It pairs beautifully with the Foreo Luna!
Odacité Crystal Contour Gua Sha
Gua Sha, an ancient Chinese "skin-scraping" massage technique, is all the rage right now for smoothing wrinkles and reducing puffiness. The Odacité Crystal Contour Gua Sha has all you need to get started: a rose quartz tool plus a detailed instructions booklet.
Omorovicza Cashmere Cleanser
Omorovicza Cashmere Cleanser is a gentle, sulfate-free cleanser suitable for all skin, but especially sensitive skin. It has the texture of a milk, so is best removed with a cloth or their cleansing mitt.
Omorovicza Complexion Perfector
It's rare to find a tinted moisturizer without silicone, so of course I'm thrilled about the Omorovicza Complexion Perfector (which replaces their old BB cream). It's a skin treatment and makeup in one, and comes in three shades (Light, Medium and Dark). The coverage is sheer but buildable. Love!
Omorovicza Queen of Hungary Mist Limited Edition
Every year, there's a new Omorovicza Queen of Hungary Mist Limited Edition in a colourful bottle... and this time, there are three to choose from! This is the blue; it also comes in teal and lime. See my review of this cult face mist here.
Pixi Retinol Tonic
First there was Glow Tonic. Now, Pixi has released Retinol Tonic, a retinol in toner form! This won't be strong, but it's also going to be less drying than most retinoids (and can be used day or night!). They're using a time-released form of retinol; I would still keep the bottle away from heat and light to preserve its potency.
Schaf Restoration Mask
Schaf Restoration Mask is a brightening, hydrating and exfoliating mask. It's made with a unique blend of ingredients that includes clay, niacinamide, hyaluronic acid and gotu kola (a calming, skin-rejuvenating herb). Unlike most clay masks, it's not drying or messy—the texture is actually buttery!
SkinCeuticals Discoloration Defense
If you struggle with any kind of pigmentation, SkinCeuticals Discoloration Defense is worth a try. It's a daily dark spot corrector with five percent niacinamide, five percent sulfonic acid, three percent tranexamic acid and one percent kojic acid—all amazing ingredients for brown marks and post-acne marks! It even helps prevent recurrence with continued use.
Tata Harper Clarifying Cleanser
Tata Harper Clarifying Cleanser is an all-natural gel cleanser for acne-prone skin (also part of my skincare routine right now!). Although it's sulfate-free, it does foam; it also gently exfoliates (with enzymes) and calms the skin (with chlorella). It's so gentle, I think even dry and sensitive types could use this!
Tata Harper Resurfacing Serum
Inspired by the brand's cult favourite Resurfacing Mask (reviewed here), Tata Harper Resurfacing Serum is a daily glow-boosting treatment with AHAs, BHAs and antioxidants. Besides exfoliating and fending off free radicals, it softens the skin with jojoba and squalane oils.
The Ordinary Amino Acids + B5
The Ordinary Amino Acids + B5 is a new, silicone-free and oil-free hydrating serum—that's about all the information they've released about it so far! As far as benefits, the B5 is hydrating, while the amino acids have antioxidant and anti-aging properties.
Vichy Aqualia Thermal Rehydrating Cream
Hooray, there's now a cleaner moisturizer option at the drugstore! Vichy Aqualia Thermal Rehydrating Cream has just been reformulated, and now it's silicone-free, with only 20 ingredients of 97 percent natural origin. There are two creams (Rich and Light) as well as a Gel-Cream.
Vichy Aqualia Thermal Rehydrating Serum
Vichy Aqualia Thermal Rehydrating Serum was also reformulated recently. It, too, is silicone-free and uses 97 percent naturally-derived ingredients! (If you're looking for something similar but oil-free and fragrance-free, check out their Minéral 89, reviewed here.)
